Minnesota farmer struggles to find cover crop seed
A southwest Minnesota farmer is having a hard time securing cover crop seed for his prevented plant acres.
Chris Hill of Brewster says a lot of corn in his area won’t get planted this year.
“The cover crops are hard to come by (and) we found that out first-hand. We thought we secured some, and then found out it’s not secured. Everyone is scrambling to find something to put down just to keep the ground in good shape for next year.”
He tells Brownfield this will be the first time in more than two decades that cover crops will be used on his farm.
“It’s not anything new, but we just have to go out and get the playbook and look to see what we need to do.”
Hill says most of his cover crop will consist of oats.
