Minnesota farmer says corn stands are best he’s seen in a while

A southeast Minnesota farmer is pleased with his emerging corn crop.

Les Anderson tells Brownfield a dry spring allowed for smooth planting.

“I planted into some good moisture and had really good emergence coming on the corn. It’s really some of the nicest looking stands I can remember.”

The Red Wing farmer says his area received about a tenth of an inch of rain Tuesday night.

“And hopefully some more coming, we definitely need it. We’re in good shape so far, (and) if it’s going to be dry (this) is a good time for it to be dry I guess.”

Anderson says he’s surprised by how even his corn looks considering the cool soils and dry pockets at planting.
