Minnesota farmer locking in profits

Farmers are finding opportunities to lock in profits for next year.

Southeast Minnesota corn and soybean grower Ryan Buck says he’s forward contracting some grain.

“You look at the rail basis and that’s pretty strong for next summer. That tells me they’re going to be hungry for corn probably to ship down toward that Nebraska and Kansas area where it was really dry and the crop wasn’t as good, because they still have livestock to feed down there. So we should be able to take advantage of some pretty good prices here.”

Buck tells Brownfield this year’s crop is decent and he’s been selling excess grain that didn’t fit in the bin.
