Minnesota farmer has difficult time selecting revenue protection

The president of the Minnesota Soybean Growers had a hard time determining the best federal revenue protection for 2021.

Jamie Beyer, who grows soybeans, corn, wheat, sugarbeets, and alfalfa near Wheaton in west-central Minnesota, tells Brownfield choosing between Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage can be very complicated.

“Because the markets change and your crop mix might change a little bit too, and your past history changes. So it is not an easy decision.”

Beyer has made her elections for 2021 and says she’s thankful the last farm bill made it possible to select ARC or PLC on an annual basis.

“There are just so many things that can happen and play into every decision. Between the market and the weather, there’s so much unpredictability. So it’s nice to have that choice.”

Farmers have until March 15th to decide between ARC and PLC.  That’s also the deadline for crop insurance.
