Minnesota farmer braces for October blizzard

Farmers in the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest are bracing for an October blizzard.

Kirby Hettver in west-central Minnesota tells Brownfield there’s talk of two feet of snow this weekend.

“Trying to be mentally prepared, just be patient, and work through the crop as conditions allow. And really keep a focus on being patient.”

He says soybean harvest is just beginning and most of the corn in his area is still a week or two away.

“Being relatively water-logged the way we are, any precipitation in any form is just going to delay things and make the harvest more difficult than it would be if (the storm) would miss.”

Hettver farms near De Graff in Swift County.

The National Weather Service says a powerful storm will bring heavy snow from southeast Montana into portions of the central and northern Plains.  One to two feet of snow is possible across central and eastern North Dakota.
