Minnesota farmer alarmed that soybean and wheat yields were similar

A farmer in northwest Minnesota says her soybean and wheat yields ran about the same this past harvest.

“And that’s wrong, okay.”

Theresia Gillie of Hallock tells Brownfield her wheat yields typically outpace her soybeans by a wide margin.

She suggests the beans handled excessively wet conditions much better in 2020.

“Our rains started in that first week of June. We’d kind of get these thunderstorms that build up, and it went on for a series of weeks.”

She estimates at least 25 inches of rain fell over a six-week period.
