Minnesota egg production pacing ahead of last year

Minnesota egg production is pacing about 20 percent ahead of last year.

In its latest Chickens and Eggs report, the USDA says egg production in April totaled 257 million.

While down five percent from March, that’s 17 percent higher than April 2016.

The average number of all layers on hand last month was 10.4 million, up seven percent on the year.

Eggs per 100 layers, at 2,500 this April, is a nine percent improvement compared to the same period a year ago.
