Minnesota Dicamba Task Force evaluating new registration

The president of the Minnesota Soybean Growers says the Association’s Dicamba Task Force is gathering information now that EPA has approved over-the-top use of three dicamba formulations for 2021 and beyond.

Jamie Beyer, a farmer from Wheaton in far west-central Minnesota, tells Brownfield the new label includes wider buffers, a June 30th cutoff, and some approved pH buffering tank-mix agents.

“And what we do is take a look at that and see what influence we can have on a state’s response to that.”

She says the Task Force wants to ensure farmers can confidently and safely use dicamba technology.

“Nobody wants to damage a neighbor’s crop, and we know that it’s a successful product in certain circumstances. So it’s more about finding what works for Minnesota farmers.”

In 2018, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture instituted temperature and date restrictions for dicamba applications.  The temperature threshold of 85 degrees was dropped last year, but the June 20th cutoff was not.
