Minnesota crowns 64th Princess Kay of the Milky Way

A 19-year old studying animal science and ag communications at the University of Minnesota has been crowned Princess Kay of the Milky Way.

Emily Annexstad of St. Peter will represent more than 3,000 Minnesota dairy farm families over the next year, beginning with the State Fair.

“Going into this weekend, I was a little nervous.  But the other finalists made it such an awesome experience.  They each have their own unique dairy story to share with the community, and I’m so excited to do this with them throughout the 12 days of the State Fair.”

As the 64th Princess Kay, Annexstad will make public appearances to help connect consumers to the dairy industry.

“I think the best thing we can do is be open and transparent and show (consumers) what we do on our farms.  I am really proud of what my family does, and I want to share that.  So by trying to find a commonality or similarity with people and showing them what my family does every day, is really the best way to spread that message.”

Twelve county dairy princesses competed for Princess Kay of the Milky Way, and each will have their likeness sculpted into butter during the Minnesota State Fair.
