Minnesota crop condition ratings trending higher

Beneficial weather helped improve crop condition ratings in Minnesota.

The latest weekly USDA crop report shows corn considered good to excellent jumped from 64 to 68 percent. 

Soybeans improved seven percentage points to 68 percent good to excellent.

Crop development remains behind normal with six percent of soybeans blooming.

Spring wheat is 86 percent jointed and 5 percent headed.  Oats are 89 percent jointed and 32 percent headed, and barley is 65 percent jointed and 17 percent headed.

Sugarbeets are 65 percent good to excellent and potatoes are 87 percent good to excellent.

The first cutting of alfalfa is 94 percent complete and the second cutting is at 16 percent.
