Minnesota Corn offers innovation grants

Doug Albin

The Minnesota Corn Research and Promotion Council is supporting farmers on the cutting edge of technology through Conservation innovation grants.

Past chairman Doug Albin says great ideas come straight from the farm.

“They’re timely (and) relevant, whether it’s cover crops or nitrogen use or water treatment.  Sometimes a farmer just needs a little extra financial help, or maybe a little technical assistance to take and do it.”

He tells Brownfield individual farmers can receive up to $12,000 dollars, with additional funds available to assist in hosting a field day.

“So if somebody is already doing something that they want to take and share with their neighbors, or maybe politicians or whoever, maybe they want to host a field day, we’ll provide up to $5,000 dollars for providing (things like) a tent, speakers, logistics, transportation, whatever it is.”

He says the innovation grants are a great way for Minnesota Corn to give back to its members, and for membership to get involved with the Association.

Brownfield spoke to Albin at FarmFest last week.
