Minnesota corn harvest 97% complete

The USDA says Minnesota’s corn harvest is wrapping up.

In its latest weekly crop report, the department shows 97 percent of the state’s corn acres are out.  That’s well ahead of last year’s 73 percent and the five-year average of 88 percent.

Widespread snowfall is being blamed for slowing harvest some, as well as manure and fertilizer application and fall tillage.

Both topsoil and subsoil moisture increased on the week, with topsoil moisture condition rated 89 percent adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture rated 84 percent adequate to surplus.
