The director of the Minnesota Biofuels Association sees ethanol exports building momentum as the new year begins.

Brian Werner says Brazil’s recent decision to eliminate their tariff on ethanol is a positive development.

“So I think we’re certainly seeing some good movement there. But also I think just more broadly, as we see more states and countries I think we’ve seen with Canada enacting a low-carbon fuel standard, that there are going to be additional opportunities going forward.”

He tells Brownfield ethanol’s lower carbon intensity should spark plenty of interest at home and abroad.

“So there are a lot of opportunities there and I think we’re certainly encouraged by those two actions.”

Canada continues to be the leading export destination for U.S. ethanol.
