Minnesota ag priorities could be addressed during special session

Governor Walz has called Minnesota legislators back for a special session Friday.

Minnesota Pork CEO David Preisler tells Brownfield some legislation important to farmers could be addressed.

“We do have a dog in that fight from the standpoint of something called Section 179 and like-kind exchange, where Minnesota never got synced up with the federal tax changes. So that’s been really expensive for businesses, whether it be a farm business or main street business that has equipment that depreciates.”

He says a bonding bill will likely be discussed as well.

“The state doesn’t have to have a bonding bill, and now I think it’s going to end up being more complicated because we’ll probably have proposals that will come in to help with some of the destroyed parts of the Twin Cities that might be be looking for bonding dollars.”

Preisler says the bonding bill could provide funding for infrastructure projects important to Greater Minnesota.
