Minnesota ag groups press legislators on Section 179 conformity

Leaders of several ag groups in Minnesota have written to legislators imploring them to pass full Section 179 conformity during a potential August special session.

The letter is in response to the Legislature’s failure to pass a bonding bill and tax bill during July’s special session.

Minnesota Soybean Growers president Jamie Beyer, who farms near Wheaton, tells Brownfield the Association is going to keep fighting for full conformity.

“My state tax bill this year was enough for a mortgage in South Dakota, and I’m only a few miles away. So at what point can we keep doing this?”

Minnesota Corn Growers president Les Anderson says time is of the essence to get full Section 179 conformity done.

Minnesota Pork CEO David Preisler says farmers can’t wait until 2021.

House Tax Committee chair Paul Marquart recently told Brownfield he believes there will be a special session in August so Governor Walz can extend his emergency powers.
