Midwestern Senators urge the president to support biofuels, RFS

A group of Midwestern Senators have sent a letter to President Biden urging him to uphold campaign promises to support biofuels and the Renewable Fuel Standard.

The letter asks the president to promote and advance renewable energy, ethanol, and other biofuels by not considering oil refinery exemptions under the RFS.

The letter says the president is “inconsistent” with his policy position outlined during his campaign after reports that he’s considering “bailouts” for oil refineries. The lawmakers say this would undermine the biofuels industry and family farmers who rely on it.

The letter authored by Joni Ernst, a Republican from Iowa, was also signed by Nebraska Republicans Ben Sasse and Deb Fischer along with Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley, John Thune and Mike Rounds – both South Dakota Republicans.
