Midwest agronomist pleased with early to mid-season weed management

A Midwestern agronomist is pleased with weed control.

“The areas I’ve been traveling I’ve been happy with the way growers have kept up on (weeds). They’ve been able to hit the spray windows they wanted to hit, and now this corn is canopied very well in a lot of areas.”

He tells Brownfield it’s been drier in the Western Corn Belt, which has limited disease pressure.

“We’re getting some corn that is well into that silking and doing some shedding of pollen, so we’re getting real close to where we’re going to have a post-pollination fungicide (that) we’ll spray (but) I really haven’t seen much disease.”

Lenz says to the east where it’s been wetter, tar spot is a major concern.
