Michigan Governor declares Food and Ag Day

Governor Rick Snyder declared Wednesday as Food and Ag Day to celebrate and honor the state’s farmers and food and agriculture companies as part of Michigan Ag Month and National Ag Week.

More than 30 commodity and ag organizations provided legislative offices with baskets filled with Michigan-made products and then filled the Capitol halls with samplings that represented the more than 300 commodities produced in the state.

Three companies were also recognized by the governor for their 100 years in business including GreenStone Farm Credit Services, Koegel Meats and Sportel Greenhouses.

Michigan’s food and agriculture industry contributes more than $100 billion annually to the state’s economy.
