Michigan Farmers Market Association celebrates 10 years

The Michigan Farmers Market Association has helped to double the number of markets in the state in the last decade.

Executive Director Dru Montri tells Brownfield when the organization was formed 10 years ago, there were only 150 farmers markets in Michigan and no centralized hub for resources.  “We’ve done a lot of programming over the past 10 years to really professionalize farmers markets.  We had one of the first market managers certificate programs in the country.”

Montri says today there are more than 300 markets in the state, ranking Michigan third in the nation for the number of farmers markets.

She says to celebrate the association’s 10 year anniversary, they’re raising $10,000 to support its mission to create a thriving marketplace for local food and farm products.
