Michigan Farm Bureau ready to help vaccination efforts, wants more details

Michigan’s largest farm organization says details on who in the food and ag sector is eligible for COVID vaccines are vague.

“It’s really unclear at this point what the intent was.”

Associate Legislative Counsel Ben Tirrell tells Brownfield they are working to better understand the details on the scope of the “essential” food and ag workforce.

“We saw a lot of supply chain disruptions last year and it really takes everyone in the food system to be able to operate and keep the chain moving,” he says.  “That’s going to be an important focus for us.”

Tirrell says many of their stakeholders have discussed rural vaccination events to support broad distributions, but details remain to be seen this early on.  He says Farm Bureau plans to provide resources to members and ag business as soon as possible.

Brownfield has reached out to the state’s Health and Human Services Department for further clarification.
