Michigan calling for specialty crop and fair grant proposals

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is now accepting applications for specialty crop block grants and county fair improvements.

Specialty crop grants will be awarded up to $100,000 for research proposals and $125,000 for marketing, training, and education.

Applications are due February 25.  Nearly $2 million were awarded to 20 projects in the state last year.

The department is also accepting applications for county fair capital improvement grants.  Funds for the program were eliminated in 2020 but the legislature has allocated $475,000 for 2021.  Grants are meant to make capital and building improvements to county fairs across Michigan.  Proposals are due March 15.
