Michigan Barn of the Year
The Michigan Barn Preservation Network is searching for historic barns that have been well preserved or adapted to survive over generations for its 2016 Barn of the Year Awards.
Committee Chair Jerry Damon tells Brownfield any barn built before 1957 can be recognized. “It gives those of us that remember them when we were young the chance for our youth to see what farming was really all about.” He says the program has grown to recognize four different types of barns from family owned to commercial. “What we’re looking for is people that have done a really nice job taking care of their barn.”
Damon is also a past award winner for restoring a barn that he converted into his home. He says nominations must be completed by April 1st. Awards will be presented during the network’s annual conference May 6th and 7th at the Coopersville Farm Museum in West Michigan.
