Michigan announces hemp plan for 2021

The Michigan Department of Agriculture Industrial Hemp Plan has received federal approval.

The plan sets regulations for cultivating industrial hemp in the state and gives the department oversight to comply with USDA’s 2018 Farm Bill and Interim Final Rule.

Starting in December department staff will be required to collect plant samples for THC analysis instead of growers.

The plan also requires additional growing information from growers and specific methods to destroy crops that don’t meet THC limits.

The state approved more than 630 growers this year who intended to plant industrial hemp on 13,000 acres and 500 processors and handlers as part of the pilot program.
