Mexico remains top destination for U.S. poultry exports

Mexico continues to pace U.S. poultry exports.

Shelby Watson is with the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council.

“Mexico is definitely our number one trading partner across all products, chicken, turkey, duck, and eggs.”

She tells Brownfield the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement has not made much of an impact.

“We were okay if there was really no improvement for poultry because we were pretty happy with how things were before. So we’ve been able to maintain those relationships and our relationships with Mexican officials continues to grow.”

Watson says since reopening a couple of years ago, China has quickly become the second-largest importer of U.S. poultry.  She singles out Cuba as a very important market for broilers, and points to Vietnam and the Philippines as two emerging markets.
