Mexico leads list for soybean, wheat export inspections

Mexico played a big role in U.S. export inspections during the week ending August 25th as the top destination for soybeans and wheat, while taking the number two slot for corn and sorghum. The 2021/22 marketing year started September 1st, 2021 for beans, corn, and sorghum, while 2022/23 got underway June 1st, 2022 for wheat. The USDA’s next set of supply and demand estimates is out September 12th.

Wheat came out at 520,791 tons, down 73,482 from the week ending August 18th, but up 85,392 from the week ending August 26th, 2021. The leading destinations were Mexico and China. Nearing the end of the first quarter of the 2022/23 marketing year, wheat inspections are 5,014,620 tons, compared to 6,203,627 in 2021/22.

Corn was reported at 689,052 tons, 132,481 lower than the previous week, but 105,554 higher than this time last year. The top destinations were China and Mexico. At the tail end of the 2021/22 marketing year, corn inspections are 54,591,210 tons, compared to 66,055,694 late in 2020/21.

Soybeans were pegged at 436,851 tons, 249,976 less than the prior week, but 49,645 more than a year ago. The primary destinations were Mexico and Indonesia. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 56,444,476 tons, compared to 59,402,860 last year.

Sorghum totaled 22,471 tons, a decrease of 20,910 on the week and 54,385 on the year. The reported destinations were South Africa and Mexico. 2021/22 sorghum inspections are 7,424,226 tons, compared to 7,104,020 in 2020/21.
