Mexico leaders discuss potential tariffs in Washington

Mexican officials are in Washington trying to resolve border security issues so they can stop President Trump’s proposed new tariffs.  Agri-Pulse reports high ranking Mexican officials will present a proposal for controlling border security to the White House today to stop Trump’s initial 5% tariff on all Mexican goods from beginning Monday.

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard told reporters he believes there’s an 80% chance Mexico and the U.S. will reach an agreement before then, but President Trump said the tariffs will likely start before talks are completed.

Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson told reporters Tuesday Trump’s support for the tariffs on Capitol Hill is not strong.  Johnson’s message to Trump was the White House should not assume it will have the same level of support it had for border wall funding.
