Meteorologist: mild conditions won’t last

Many parts of the Midwest have experienced a wide range of temperatures over the holidays.

“Folks that had a white Halloween, bitter cold Thanksgiving, and an unseasonably mild almost spring-like Christmas day with readings up in the 60-degree range and higher,” he says.

Brownfield Meteorologist Greg Soulje says the upper Midwest and Great Lakes region, however, have been experiencing winter-like conditions.

“In contrast, blizzard conditions that swept through Nebraska, the upper Midwest and the Dakotas through Minnesota,” he says. “Upwards of two, almost three feet of snow now on the ground.”

He says there has also been increased precipitation over many parts of the corn belt.

“Anywhere from 2 inches of rain into Michigan, soaking rains over the rest of the corn belt, and a couple of thunderstorms as well,” he says.

Soulje anticipates a return to more normal winter conditions.
