Meteorologist is watching conditions in the Black Sea region and China

The principal atmospheric scientist with Nutrien Ag Solutions says he is keeping an eye on weather conditions in the Black Sea region and China.

Eric Snodgrass says the Black Sea region is expected to turn very dry over the next 10 days.

“Parts of eastern Ukraine, getting in the Russian wheat belt, are going to be dry,” he says. “So, there may not be such a great crop coming out of Ukraine like we’ve had over the last couple of years.”

And he says major flooding is impacting some of China’s growing areas.

“China’s a bit of a black box on getting a lot of information out about how the crop is doing, but I can certainly see the flooding happening pretty far south of Beijing so I want to watch that all very carefully,” he says.

He says it’s not clear yet how the conditions will impact production.
