Meat auction benefits Wisconsin 4-H

WI State Program Director for 4-H Youth Development Dale Leidheiser

Wisconsin’s 4-H programs benefit from a special auction held at the State Fair.

The Governor’s Blue Ribbon Quality Meat Auction raised 130-thousand dollars for the 4-H Foundation last night. Dale Leidheiser is the State Program Director for 4-H Youth Development. He tells Brownfield the best products at the fair draw large bids.  “It’s very high-quality product and it really draws a high price, and part of it is the people who are purchasing all of these meat products tonight know that it’s benefitting 4-H.”

Leidheiser says 4-H receives public funding that helps support staff, but these donations help support statewide youth activities.  “The private dollars that we get through our foundation helps with curriculum development.  It helps with rewards and recognition for young people that do an outstanding job, for scholarships, for professional development, for educational opportunities for young people in each of our 72 counties.”

The top bid in the auction was 10-thousand dollars for the Grand Champion flavored bacon produced by Wyttenbach Meats of Prairie du Sac.
