McKinney remains bullish on phase one agreement

USDA Undersecretary for Trade Ted McKinney says he’s confident the phase one trade deal with China will continue as planned.

“We have seen sales pick up,” he says. “It was later than many people would like, but we are seeing that. We believe firmly that China will keep it’s word just like we’ll keep our word on other things that we’ve agreed too.”

He says the countries continued to work during the coronavirus pandemic to finalize several technical agreements.

“Nobody missed a deadline and I’m very proud of both sides because it shows the commitment,” he says.

McKinney, who spoke during the US Soybean Export Council’s virtual Asia Trade Exchange, says he remains bullish and believes China will honor the phase one commitments.
