McDonald’s continues to test plant-based protein items

McDonald’s has introduced a new meatless burger as they continue to test their new line of plant-based protein menu items.

The “McPlant” line includes the McPlant burger, co-created by Beyond Meat, that McDonald’s plans to test in several markets next year. The company also says the line could include chicken substitutes and breakfast sandwiches.

McDonald’s began testing a meatless burger named the P.L.T. in several Ontario restaurants in September of 2019. The company ended the pilot in April with no plans to bring back the P.L.T.

While the company has not announced who will be supplying the McPlant line, Beyond Meat stocks surged nearly 9% after the announcement Monday.
