May corn grind, soybean crush both up on month

U.S. corn for ethanol use and soybean crush numbers continue to reflect strong domestic demand.

The USDA says 446.149 million bushels of corn were used for ethanol production in May, an increase of 7% from April, but a decrease of less than 1% from May 2021. Production of distillers dried grains with solubles was 1,896,665 tons, 11% higher than the previous month, but 2% lower than last year.

The May soybean crush was 181 million bushels, unchanged on the month and 7 million above a year ago. Crude soybean oil production was 2.158 billion pounds, up 1% from the month before and 6% more than the prior year.

The USDA’s next set of supply and demand estimates is out on the 12th.
