May corn for ethanol use up big on year

The USDA says 447.558 million bushels of corn were used for ethanol production during May. That’s up 10% from April 2021 and 49% from May 2020 as the industry continues to respond to expected increases in demand following decreases caused by COVID-19.

Production of distillers dried grains with solubles, which is used as a feed ingredient, was 1,938,766 tons, a jump of 10% on the month and 56% on the year.

The USDA’s next corn for ethanol use estimate is out July 12th.
