MASDA meeting provides broader perspective

Over the weekend the members of MASDA (Midwest Association of State Departments of Agriculture) met in Indiana.  Joe Kelsay, president of MASDA and Indiana’s Director of Agriculture says it is a great opportunity for the directors to exchange ideas.  “As issues and concerns come about we can bounce ideas off each other,” he says.  “We also have the ability to spend some time learning how different policies play in different states.”

And Kelsay says that alternative point of view is often very beneficial.  “It might be that cutting edge biofuel – but it also might be our use of our lands and resources and how those policies affect land ownership, farm owners, and agribusinesses in areas around us,” he says.  “It enables us to have a bigger view of what agriculture is – as we keep our blinders off and our opportunities open.”
