LPP official: No plans for a second Costco chicken plant in Nebraska
A spokeswoman for Lincoln Premium Poultry (LPP)—the company building the Costco chicken processing plant at Fremont, Nebraska—says there are currently no plans to locate another plant in the state.
The possibility of a second Costco plant was a subject of conversation at the recent Governor’s Ag Conference in Kearney. Governor Pete Ricketts even mentioned it in his comments to reporters.
“We know that Costco is interested in building another one—and we’d love to have it here in Nebraska,” Ricketts said.
But LPP’s Jessica Kolterman tells Brownfield there are no plans for another plant, at this time.
“That will be a Costco decision when and if they decide to look at another facility,” Kolterman says. “Right now our team and the Costco team is very focused on this (Fremont) facility and making sure that it’s moving forward in a positive way—and right now we’re on track.”
The Fremont plant is scheduled to begin operations in early September. Once fully operational, the plant will process two million chickens per week to be sold at Costco stores.
