Logistical hiccups not uncommon for crop input suppliers, but this year has been

The CEO of a crop inputs company suggests logistical problems are not uncommon for the industry.

Randy Canady with Atticus says there are stresses on the supply chain every year.

“Just like in the farm community (maybe) weather related, every year we have stresses. If it’s not one product, it’s the next product. And a broad portfolio like we have, it’s just a matter of which product this year is kind of going to throw that wrench into our plan. We wake up on Monday with the best day planned, and then the day begins.”

He tells Brownfield this year is challenging because there are a lot of factors impacting the supply chain.

“We’ve had a lot of (challenges). And (before) no one really felt the pressure because we could catch up in logistics, shipping time, and bringing it in. This year unfortunately, the logistics is part of the problem. So there’s no time to catch up.”

Canady says back in December Atticus made the difficult decision to make sure the company could satisfy retail distributor demand and not take on additional customers for 2022.
