Lawmakers work to protect ag fairs

Bipartisan legislation has been introduced in the U.S. House to help mitigate losses felt by agriculture fairs across the country because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Agricultural Fairs Rescue Act, introduced by Missouri Republican Billy Long and California Democrat Jimmy Panetta, would provide $500 million in grant funding to preserve agricultural fairs and will be given based on revenue and attendance losses in 2020.

Long says fairs support thousands of jobs and give farmers a way to promote their products, but have suffered sometimes devastating losses because of COVID-19.

The measure is supported by the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture.

  • This legislation is so important for the youth, community, non-profits and so many more. Fairs and their respective facilities provide year around advantages for many causes throughout the year. this is so vital to so many please support this request.
