Lawmakers urge EPA not to exempt oil refiners

Three U.S. Congresswomen and a dozen of their colleagues are concerned about reports that the Biden administration is considering options to exempt oil refiners of their obligations under the Clean Air Act’s Renewable Fuel Standard.

Representatives Cindy Axne of Iowa, Cheri Bustos of Illinois, Angie Craig of Minnesota – along with Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar – have sent the letter to the EPA and National Economic Council saying any such exemptions are unjustified.

They urge EPA’s swift action on a proposed rule for the 2021 and ’22 Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs) with strong blending targets.

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor praised the Democrats’ letter and their united front. She says reported handouts to oil companies looking to avoid their obligations would be a complete reversal of the Biden administration’s promises to support clean energy jobs and the integrity of the RFS.
