Late December blizzard impacts Minnesota

A warm, dry start to December in Minnesota gave way to a blizzard just before Christmas.

The USDA says temperatures dropped sharply and snow coverage generally ranged from four to six inches, but there were reports of depth of more than nine inches.

Ahead of the storm, activities included maintenance, tiling, and hauling manure.

Compared to the end of 2019, only a small portion of the state still had corn standing and some cows were reportedly grazing corn stalks with good pasture conditions until the blizzard hit.

Feed supplies were called adequate.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition numbers resume in April.
