Late December blizzard impacts Iowa livestock

A late December blizzard affected livestock in Iowa.

The USDA says many cattle producers were prepared for the snow, wind, and drop in temperatures but some deaths were reported, water sources froze, and there was also an increase in disease reports for hogs and poultry.

Those conditions also impacted grain movement.

Even with the widespread snow, soil moisture levels are a concern for most of Iowa ahead of 2023 planting.

The USDA’s next set of state crop and weather stories is out January 31st.
