Klobuchar wants farm bill completed by end of 2023

Congress is back in session and pressed for time with the farm bill expiring in two weeks.

Senate Agriculture Committee member Amy Klobuchar tells Brownfield an extension is imminent.

“We’ve done that time and time again, so that shouldn’t create alarm. But I would like to get this done by the end of the year.”

The Minnesota Democrat says the ag committee wants to avoid dragging negotiations into an election year.

“I just keep emphasizing that we need to get this done. We don’t want to go into the tumult of the waters next year in the middle of a presidential race trying to get the farm bill done, and then of course we don’t want to go into the unknown in the future.”

Klobuchar says the Senate Ag Committee is close to an agreement on the farm bill.
