Key to ag tech adoption is identifying problem that needs solving

Farmers are trying to keep up with constant advancements in ag technology.

WinField United director of digital transformation Joel Wipperfurth says the best way to evaluate which pieces of ag tech are the most essential is to start with a problem that needs solving.

“I think so many times farmers get approached by a solution, but they don’t really have a problem. And if the farmer starts with the problem, that’s probably the best place that adoption really takes off.”

He tells Brownfield farmers are faced with more complex decisions than ever before, and suggests the risks are higher as well.

“I think the days of farmers being able to put all their inputs out for 150, 200 bushel corn up front are gone. And now they’re playing the waiting game of putting a base-layer down and then reacting to the in-season opportunities.”

Wipperfurth says one of the keys to profitability is making sure the agronomics and economics play well together, with the help of ag technology.
