Key MO planting progress doubles

Corn and soybean planting progress more than doubled in Missouri last week with more than five days suitable for fieldwork.

USDA says 65 percent of the state’s corn crop is planted, less than 20 percent behind last year and the five – year average. Nearly a third of the crop has emerged, 27 percent behind last year.

Nineteen percent of Missouri’s soybean crop is planted, 15 percent behind last year.

Missouri cotton planting is nearly half done and remains around pace with the average at 47 percent.

Rice planting is past halfway complete but is 30 percent behind last year.

Missouri’s winter wheat crop improved slightly with 93 percent of the crop still fair or better. The crop remains well above the national average.

Pasture conditions in the state improved last week and are nearly all fair or better; 57 percent rated good, and 12 percent rated excellent. Most ground was able to dry out last week; topsoil moisture is 82 percent adequate and 17 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is 86 percent adequate and 11 percent surplus.
