Kansas crops desperately need rain with chances expected this week

Nearly a quarter of the corn crop in Kansas has been planted despite a wide variety of soil conditions.

The USDA says 24 percent of the crop is in, five percent ahead of last year.

Four percent of soybeans have been planted.

Winter wheat condition is rated 52 percent poor-to-very poor with 14 percent rated good-to-excellent.

Topsoil moisture is 24 percent adequate with no surplus and subsoil moisture is 20 percent adequate and no surplus.
