July 15th deadline to certify acres

Farmers have until July 15th to certify acres.

Minnesota Farm Service Agency director Joe Martin says acreage reporting should be easier than last year.

“The good news this year is we got the planting done early, so I know many of the offices have made good progress in getting acres reported.”

He tells Brownfield all offices are doing what they can to accommodate producers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re working in new and creative ways because obviously the offices still aren’t open for customer business, but we can email maps, email forms. And we just recently received some authorization to do digital signatures, which we haven’t in the past.”

Martin says acreage reporting is an important part of determining eligibility for key programs, including price support, disaster relief, and conservation programs.
