Isolated hail takes chunk out of Minnesota soybean condition rating

The condition of Minnesota’s corn and soybean crop deteriorated slightly last week.

USDA says as of Sunday, 84 percent of corn and 81 percent of soybeans are rated good to excellent.  The soybean rating for that category was unchanged, but one percent of the acreage is now rated very poor after some reports of isolated hail.

Soybeans blooming reached seven percent, 11 days ahead of last year and two days ahead of the five-year average.

Nearly the entire spring wheat crop has jointed, and 45 percent has headed.  Some reports of spring wheat turning color also came in.

The oat crop is 98 percent jointed and 75 percent headed.

Sugarbeets rated good to excellent climbed to 98 percent, and the first cutting of alfalfa hay is 96 percent complete.
