Is impeachment process impeding USMCA vote?

A spokesman for the Rural and Agriculture Council of America scoffs at the notion impeachment proceedings are not getting in the way of USMCA ratification.

Cooper Little tells Brownfield there’s no other explanation as to why House Democrats haven’t brought the agreement up for a vote.

“From our perspective, it’s got to be holding it up. Or what’s the justification for it not being complete by now?”

He points out Speaker Pelosi, who voted for NAFTA, has acknowledged USMCA is an improvement over the 25-year old pact between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

“We were first told that they’d have USMCA ratified in September, then they told us October, then November. Then it was before Christmas. And it seems like some of the language coming out of the Speaker’s office is it might not happen till next year.”

Little says that is unacceptable and encourages people to reach out to their representatives to make USMCA ratification in 2019 a priority.
