Irrigation company helping improve water management for producers

An irrigation company is trying to assist farmers with water management technology and programs to help mitigate on-going drought.

Chris Roth, President of Nebraska-based Reinke Manufacturing, says the most common mistake is over watering and investments in technology could improve the bottom line. “If you’re putting on too much water, then there is an opportunity for chemicals to get out of your root zone.  That’s one way we can increase yields.”

For example, Roth tells Brownfield moisture probes connect irrigation motors, pivots and weather forecasts. “It’s patented, it’s highly defined and precise as far as what your soil moisture is.  Then, through an app, that tells you that as you use less and less water, it will tell you when to your sprinklers on.”

He says the forecasting app is a game changer. “It will tell you that you will get rain in the next 24 hours and then you’ll be able to hold of turning on the water because you’re going to get rain as it is anyway.”

Roth says these types of technologies can help significantly reduce pumping costs, while maximizing yields.
