IRFA welcomes API’s E15 support

The head of a biofuels group says the American Petroleum Institute’s recent endorsement of E15 is a big step for the blend to become available year-round.

API joined a letter to Congress last week supporting a permanent fix for year-round sales of E15.

Monte Shaw is the executive director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association.

“I’m glad it’s public and I’m glad the pressure is now on those that are still trying to hold this up,” Shaw said. “Year-round E15 makes sense for consumers and it obviously makes sense for ethanol producers and farmers.”

He tells Brownfield a resolution is needed to make fuel regulations more consistent between E10 and E15.

“If they are regulated the same, then the refiners can’t play games with what blend stocks they provide for blending with ethanol,” Shaw said.

Shaw says he hopes the issue is settled by May 1st.
