Iowa’s crops are looking good

With most of its spring planting problems in the rear-view mirror, Iowa’s corn and soybean crops are looking good.

The latest crop progress report has a good-to-excellent rating of 81 percent on corn and 80 percent on soybeans.

Hay and pasture conditions also improved with good-to-excellent ratings of 69 percent on hay and 63 percent on pastures.

Statewide, topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies are both rated near 75 percent adequate. South-central and southeast Iowa remain dry, however. South-central subsoil moisture is 71 percent short to very short, while southeast subsoil moisture is 60 percent short to very short.
